Wine Sensory Course

Gina generously encouraged me to attend a wine sensory and evaluation course in Davis over the weekend. The first day was seven hours of physiology lectures and smelling trials, and only on the second day did we dive into flight after flight of blind taste tests. All followed by spitting into a plastic cup, of course, which sounds pretty funny surrounded by 49 other spitters. The best suggestion for improving wine aroma detection: pick up and smell every item in the fresh food section of the grocery store.

40th Birthday

We spent my 40th birthday in the Kyuka house in Sea Ranch. The weather cleared the days before we left for the coast, so the days were sunny (yet chilly) and the nights were brilliantly lit by stars. Gina made filet mignon and a luscious home made lemon cake in the nice kitchen while the kids were distracted by the Robo-Reptile. We had a tough time finding access to a beach due to trail washouts from the winter, and only one the last days did we decide to do the mile-plus walk to dip our toes in sand.

Nate's current obsession

Nate still loves trains and dinosaurs, but now it's also Lego sets and being able to follow the directions by himself.
