Smith Family Farms

Nate's latest field trip was to the Smith Family Farms 45 minutes west of Lafayette, and I tagged along for some chaperoning and free seedlings. The wind was bitter cold, but it seemed like only the adults were complaining as the kids kept busy moving from activity to activity.

Day Trips with the Uncles

In Tilden Park we did our regular ride through the redwoods on the miniature steam train, then for the first time walked (nearly) the entire length of the Berkeley Botanical gardens. Why doesn't our garden look this good?

The Coronado

For our vacation from our vacation, we drove to the Coronado for a little beach time and criminally expensive ice cream cones outside the hotel. We saw an older man scooping and pouring sand in one of the back driveways, and it turned out it was the "Sandman of Coronado".

San Diego Zoo

The exhausting part of the trip: trying to see more than 50% of the San Diego Zoo in one day (and failing miserably). I thought resting to watch the sea lion show would be energizing, but instead we left the arena feeling sun baked and wilted. All the more reason to hit the cooler beach weather the next day.

Spring Break Trip - Legoland

A few random photos from the two days we spent in Legoland as part of our San Diego spring break adventure. The big highlight for both Nate and Julie was the "Coastersaurus" little roller coaster which circled around a brontosaurus made out of (what else) Legos.

Big Reader

A couple of weeks ago, someone turned on Nate's "reading switch". He reads his own books outloud cover to cover and will try spelling words he hears in conversation. He's been reading words here and there for a while, but he's now insatiable. Meanwhile, both Julie and Nate have found Word Girl on PBSKids.org, their new favorite site.
