Sentinel Rock

On Sunday we climbed around the "rock city" portion of Mt. Diablo and hiked to the top of Sentinel Rock. It was a lot higher & steeper than the photo shows -- note the metal guide wires.

How to Eat Snow

President's Day Weekend

It's becoming a tradition: driving up to Arnold / Murphy's area in the Sierra Mountains for the four-day weekend. Unlike last year's blizzard, we experienced bone-dry roads and only an inch of snow at the rental house. There was still plenty to do: unlimited air hockey (the kids), wine tasting (the adults), hiking around Big Trees State Park and sledding at the top of Bear Mountain (everyone). Gina's brother John and his family met up with us a couple of times, which just gave Nate more targets for his endless snowball throwing.

44th Birthday

Gina (and the kids) went all-out yet again for my birthday, and I couldn't have had a better day. A couple of new nature-inspired creations popped up in the hallway, followed by coffee, hike on Shell Ridge, lunch at OL, and dinner/cake. That strange colored cake icing is panuche, and it's the best tasting cake I've ever had. Thanks Gina!
