Lazy Arnold Weekend

With a forecast for snow on Sunday, we drove up to Arnold for the weekend again. We had no more plans beyond watching the snow fall, so on a dry Saturday we ended up going into Angel's Camp to watch a movie and then drove backroads through San Andreas and Mountain Ranch to see the burned out hillsides (but not before Julie had time to rescue a bunch of earthworms at the empty swim club). Then Sunday we woke up to steady "popcorn" snow, and it increased in intensity until we really, really needed to leave at 4:00pm.

Berlin Film Festival field trip

On Friday I helped chaperone the two German classes at Stanley Middle School. On this rare sunny day, we walked from school to the BART, transferred on MUNI, walked to the Castro theater, all without losing a single kid. At the theater, we watched a German film (English subtitles) called The Spiderwebhouse, and listened to the director answer questions (in German and English). Somewhere along the line I managed to drop all of our train tickets, but Nate's teacher had replacements (wow, she's good!) We had a chance to stop by the Ferry Building for milkshakes before taking BART home.

New Year's

We had a quiet New Year's Eve at home with everyone staying up to midnight (just barely) and making a huge popper mess of the floor. The next morning we drove through SF and out to Half Moon Bay for lunch and to spend some sunny/chilly time at a marine preserve, which unfortunately timed with high tide. No starfish or octopi this time, but lots of rocks to juggle. To complete our circle back home, we visited the Redwood City house and then ate at Speederia Pizza in San Carlos for the best dinner $6 can buy you (two amazing thin crust slices and a fountain drink).
