Summer Camps

To keep boredom at bay, we signed the kids up for camps on the weeks we weren't traveling (or recuperating from traveling). It all started with Camp Galileo at Stanley Middle School with Nate doing Minecraft mod coding and Julie a cooking class. Later they did multiple class days for one week at the Crucible in Oakland. Julie: miniature clay sculpting and electronic gizmo making; Nate wood turning and blacksmithing. Those were long days, but probably the most interesting of all the camps. On the final week of summer, Nate went with his neighbor friend Sy to take a week's lesson of sailing on a Coronado 18' in the Berkeley marina. Of course, those were the days the fog decided to roll in, which apparently didn't stop them from jumping off the boat the last day.

Golden Day!

My birthday was like a little treasure box, from the first I opened my eyes and saw the blue ocean from the bed (Sea Lion room at the Lost Whale Inn B&B in Trinidad) to the end of the day when we sat around the fire, with Michael treating two traveling Welsh ladies to their first s'more, it was just magical.

Highlights, just to name a few, were the company (gifts in themselves), the setting (where the trees meet the ocean), the breakfast!, finding agates at the beach, passing Harry Potter on the beach trail, presents from the heart, hand, and earth, too pretty to eat pink champagne cake (that got eaten), Dom Perignon!, fabulous dinner with my beautiful peeps, the fire pit at the edge of the ocean hillside... It was a wonderful day that will always conjure up magical memories for me.
