Hiking Mt. Tam

Another wonderful hike in Mt. Tam, this time down Cataract Falls. The sun rays beam into the round pools, giving the white-tinged water a cloudy-lense appearance. Four banana slugs and LOTS of steep stairs later, we were back in the car and headed to Pt. Reyes Station and Petaluma.

Donuts with Dad

The Kindergartners in Julie's class had all the dads over singing, donuts and milk. We were given placemats and books they made. One page: "Dad's favorite food: broccoli. Dad's age: 40. Dad's weight: 40 pounds." Close on two of them.

Chess Tournament

Nate entered his first chess tournament at the Berkeley Chess School as an unranked, Advanced I player. Afterwards, with medal in hand, we celebrated with a trip to the Berkeley Vivarium to hold a couple of baby snakes and to have a lunch at one of my favorite mexican restaurants.

Nate's Experiment

Nate's entry to the science fair: paper airplanes! We tested if his creation flew the farthest (it did not). Nor did the world record holder (glider) or the common airplane (dart). The airplane called the Eagle flew 40 feet...or perhaps farther, since that was the length of our living room before it hit the wall. Nate's favorite part of his experiment was adding at the end "Things to look our for when throwing airplanes: Little sisters." He was very proud.

Science Fair

Last night was the science fair at school with so many displays -- too many to see all in one night. The things we did:
- Saw everyone's experiment boards.
- Made giant bubbles and played with earth worms
- Held a sheep heart and other organs
- Made a "screaming" pickle / electricity
- Held a live bee
- Extracted DNA from a strawberry

Lafayette-opoly

Gina's hard work is starting to get notice as she helps raise money for our local schools. I have no doubt they'll meet their $60,000 goal with this project.
