Here's a CNN "news" video about Lafayette. Luckily the theater they show at the end has recently been leased to Fentons, Oakland's famous ice cream shop.

A quick bike ride to explore Middle Harbor Shoreline Park where huge freighters were being loaded for overseas shipments, and then lunch down the road at Bocanova.

I still can't believe we have a 3rd grader and a 2nd grader.

Last Day of Summer

 

 

 

We tried ushering out summer in style: motoring on Lake Chabot with lunch and dropping a few fishing lines in the water. We didn't catch anything, but made a couple of duck friends who followed us back to the dock. And Nate's driving didn't make us sick this time, although his sister insisted we take a picture of her covering her eyes in mock terror. We followed up the outting with an afternoon of swimming at home.

Stone Brewing Co.

We just finished a quick stop at the Stone Brewing Co., considered one of the best breweries in the nation. I've been wanting to go here for ages and it did not disappoint -- it had a large outdoor seating area with lots of large stones and running water. There were dozens of beers on tap and hundreds available by bottle. Gina and I tried a couple of their IPAs and Scottish Ales. Nate tried waiting for them to truck in new root beer, but ended up with another drink and they both had pretzels (fried like donuts…yum).
