Basketball Sunday
Yesterday Nate's team was invited to play a brief game on the Golden State Warriors court in Oakland before the official game. Nate doesn't live and breathe basketball like some of his teammates, but genuinely had fun running up and down the court and then later "high-fiving" the Warriors during half-time. Our seats were in the nosebleed section and we left after the third quarter while the Warriors were losing badly. We listened on the way home and by the time we pulled into the driveway, the Warriors had won.

Cake
Gina's amazing checkerboard cake. I keep telling her she needs to open a cake shop...it tastes even better than it looks. All around, I had a very wonderful birthday with nice cards created by the kids, presents, and a couple of great meals out. Thanks Gina!
A supposedly fun thing I'll never do again
I took a pre-birthday ride in Castle Rock park just west of Mt. Diablo, and little did I know the "castle" rocks are outside the park, viewable only by a flat trail on the edge of the park. Instead I headed off into the surrounding hills -- muddy, cow laden, smelly, goopy trails that clogged my bike wheels and filled my shoes. What a mess.
